About dooarse:

dooarse is like a region or a vast area comprising of several township, sprawling tea gardens, several national park & wildlife sanctuaries, lush vegetation , numerous mountain streams, dense forests of sal and wonderfull wiews of the himalayas forming the backdrop. the boundary of dooars is not quite well defined. its an expansive 800 square kms  of land area located at the foothills of the himalayas and can be approacded throughassam.

the entire area of dooarse was once controlled by kingdom of bhutan. but after the bhutan war of 1865, the british took over the control and split the area into two part…. western dooarse(which in west bengal) and eastern dooarse in assam.

the name dooarse has been derived from doors….. because there are some 18 doorways or corridors between this place and bhutan. the entire area has been a base for trade with bhutan. a popular gateway is in western dooarse between indian border town jaigon and pheuntsholing of bhutan.

western dooarse has become popular for tourism.it offers great wildlife santruaries & park, endless stretch of tea gardens, wonderfull view point and all that combind with well organized tourist infrastructure like road, transport,tours, accommodation and dining options.

area of dooarse roughly 130 kms by 40 kms. on its western boundary flows the teesta river and on its eastern boundary flows the sankosh river.some area are in high altitude like 2,000ft.

gorumara national park :

as you pass through dence forest you may come accross the heard of  elephant, bison crossing your way. the watch tower beside the forest  rest house gives a panoramic wiew of of the entire and the murti vally. most common animals in the area are one horn indian rhino, elephant, indian bison,leopards, rock python, malayan giant squirrel and deer as regularly come to the salt reservior just below the tower.

CHAPRAMARI WILD LIFE SANCTUARY :

In side the chapramari forests there is a small pond, where the most the elephant  and the indian bisons come to drink water.the forest rest house  inside gives a magnificent view of the pond surrounded by forest.

JALDAPARA NATIONAL PARK:

it is famous for its elephant safaris to spot one – hundred rhinos and other wildlife.jeep safari are also popular at jaldapara.

BUXA TIGER RESERVE :

it has been so named for its resident tiger, althou spotting a tiger here may not be easy. however the jungle here is full of other animals encluding elephants, deers, leopards etc

BINDU VALLY :

it is famous for its scenic beauty with jaldhaka river flowing through it and wonderfull wiews of bhutan hills.the jaldhaka dam or bindu dam is also located hear

 

ABOUT KALIMPONG

Kalimpong is an eastern indian hill town in the himalayan foothills of west bengal.perched on a ridge above the teesta river. it is home to colonial-era buildings like macFarlane memorial church, named after a scottish missionary. south , the hilltop durpin monastery, or zang dhok palri phodang, contains sacred gargens and offers view of the town and surrounding hills.

Dr Grahams homes: this is a missionary school. it is set up by Dr.J A Graham in 1900 as an orphanage cum school for the destitute anglo indian children. it is located on the way to deolo hills. you can walk across to various parts of the school.

Lord Buddha Statue: 

close to deolo there is a small rock garden in which you will find this nice statue of lord buddha sitting in a lotus position. this only a quick stop over point and a good place to click a picture.

Sherpa View Point: 

it is a view point where you get great views towards both north south.also you can see sikkim hills,mount kanchenjung, relli river,hill of samthar plateau.

Durga Mandir:

this is a hindu temple of godness durga located near  sharpa view point.

Hunuman Temple:

right after durga mandir is a huge statue of lord hanuman perched on the hill.climb several flights of stairs to reached up to the temple.

Deolo hill:

this is the mejor attraction in east kalimpong. this is 8-acre lush parkland with manicured flowers gardens and several view points with breathtaking views of kanchenjunga, durpin hills, kalingpong township and valley with rivers flowing through them.

Mangal Dham:

an excellent temple complex build in the memory of  late guruji mangal dasji and dedicated to lord krishna.

Thongsa Gompa:

this is oldest monsatery in kalimpong which was built in 1692. it also known as bhutan monastary and located closed to mangal dham.
